Why Oakland Solid Hardwood Coffins?

These coffins are individually hand-crafted ensuring the highest quality, with butt jointed ends, solid oak moulds and hand finished to a superior polish in either gloss or satin. All solid coffins include a solid timber coffin base. Matching oak or mahogany may be used but must be specified.

Coffins made with Solid Oak from America and Europe

We are satisfied sufficient regulations and common sense business practice exists within America and Europe to allay general concerns of sustainable forest management. For this reason we stock and use both Forest Stewardship Council certified and non Forest Stewardship Council certified oak.

We are happy, if requested, to only use Forest Stewardship Council certified oak. However, from a point of view of cost and quality, the Forest Stewardship Council certified oak products are more expensive as the logs are smaller and the material requires more preparation. This will result in the coffin or casket having more joints in the lid, sides and end. The coffin base will be manufactured from solid pine or similar unless specified.

Coffins made with Solid Mahogany or Sapele from West Africa - Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon.

We use either sapele or utile logs. We only use Forest Stewardship Council certified mahogany to make out coffins, guaranteeing it's from a well managed forest.

Our Environment

We use about 6,000 tonnes of chipboard a year in the manufacture of our coffins and caskers and it is cut in such a way so as to minimise waste. However, we produce around 800 tonnes of wood waste a year, which consists of off cuts and saw dust. all are recycled on site and no wood is sent to a landfill.
